On February 28 we held the seminar Public Procurement and the Promotion of Sustainable Food Systems, offered by GEPAD – Study and Research Group on Agriculture, Food and Development of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
In this seminar we reflected on how to evaluate Public Food Procurement in order to promote Sustainable Food Systems and how to advance purchases from family farming and sociobiodiversity within PNAE (National School Feeding Program). We sought to understand the role of the State in tackling the challenges arising from current patterns of food production, consumption and waste, and to identify, based on the evaluation method, the main obstacles to creating Sustainable Food Systems.
We presented the study on the scope and nature of public food procurement in the city of São Luís and the study of the impacts of purchasing 100% of PNAE funds from family farming in Itati-RS.
