On December 8, at 3:30 p.m. (Brasília time), a seminar on Food Systems and Municipal Planning was held, offered by Curitiba’s Municipal Department of Food and Nutrition Security.

How does food fit into city planning? How can the work of different departments, such as health and agriculture, environment and urban planning, income generation and social assistance, be integrated? How can a municipal Food and Nutrition Security policy be structured as an autonomous strategic plan that connects all the loose ends of the challenges facing urban food systems?

The City of Curitiba offers this seminar so that we can reflect on possible paths for structuring and maturing a city’s food policy, the operational challenges commonly encountered, the needs of public administration, and how to implement multisectoral, multi-stakeholder governance.

The seminar featured Felipe Thiago de Jesus – Director of the Department of Food and Nutrition Security Strategies, Celso Melo Martins – Manager of the Registration Unit, José Carlos Koneski – Infrastructure and Project Management, Lillian Fernanda de Macedo – Manager of the Urban Agriculture Unit, and Marcos Junior Ferreira da Rosa – Manager of the Urban Farm.

This is also an opportunity to identify synergies in challenges and potential with the city of Curitiba, for the future selection of the cities that will receive mentoring from Curitiba.

The seminar is especially relevant for officials working in planning, food supply, urban agriculture, and food security.
