At LUPPA, we want to support cities in developing and refining their roadmap for building a Food and Nutrition Security Policy. For us, working with diversity is extremely important, and in the first edition of LUPPA we selected 23 cities of different sizes, located in 13 Brazilian states. We believe that Amazonian cities have a special place in the debate on and the construction of innovative food policies for cities and for the planet, and in order to deepen our work with one of the Amazonian cities participating in our first lab, we created an award that will grant a city in the Legal Amazon advisory support for building its Municipal Food and Nutrition Security Plan. It is with great pleasure that we announce that Rio Branco was the city that most fully met the selection criteria and will receive this award. The advisory support will be provided by the LUPPA team throughout 2022, in partnership with a civil society organization active in the region, and will consist of in-person and virtual meetings with the municipality’s team of officials, workshops for consultation and collaboration with local food system stakeholders, and the preparation of a final report with recommendations. LUPPA is a project of Instituto Comida do Amanhã, in partnership with ICLEI América do Sul (ICLEI South America), supported by Instituto Clima e Sociedade and Instituto Ibirapitanga, with methodological partnership from Reos Partners. This 1st edition also had institutional support from the City Governments of Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Recife, the Group for Studies, Practices and Research on Food Environments and Health at UFMG, Humane Society International and Alimentação Consciente Brasil.
