LUPPA Notebooks – Lessons Learned from the 4th LAB

In this publication, we have compiled the key lessons learned from the 4th edition of LUPPA, held in 2025. We present an overview of the activities carried out throughout the program, as well as the main achievements of the period, in addition to a compilation of programs, public policies, and inspiring initiatives shared by the participating cities.

In this edition, we have chosen to place special emphasis on environmental and climate issues, in light of the international and local context of the deepening climate and ecological crisis. The hosting of COP 30 in Brazil also motivated this focus, which is reflected in the Notebooks as we turn LUPPA’s magnifying glass on the experiences and initiatives of the laboratory’s cities that link food and climate. LUPPA Notebooks: Mentor Cities (Lessons Learned from the Mentoring Process, 2021–2025)

The new volume in the LUPPA Notebooks series compiles the key lessons learned by LUPPA’s mentor cities, highlighting how Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Osasco, Recife, and São Paulo have shared their journeys and experiences with other cities in the network. The publication presents an in-depth analysis of mentoring methodologies, the dynamics of exchange between municipalities, and the best practices implemented, highlighting the fundamental role these cities play in promoting fairer and more sustainable public food policies. In this publication, we describe how our activities unfolded, who participated, what we produced together, and which programs, policies, and initiatives from the participating cities were highlighted during the LAB and deserve to be brought to the attention of the general public. The results presented in this publication are the result of the tireless work of the entire LUPPA team, our supporters and partners, and the teams from each of the participating cities and mentor cities.
